Couples Therapy

When the Distance Between You Has Grown

Communication broke down.

The warmth that used to come easily has gone quiet.

And the gap between you and your partner has grown to a point that feels, right now, like too much to cross.

I want you to know something first: you are not alone.

There’s a path forward.

You Built Something Real. Let Me Help You Protect It.

For more than 40 years, I helped people build families as an adoption attorney.

Using both my law and counseling degrees, I guided individuals through one of the most emotionally tender processes in a person’s life: bringing children into a loving home.

Family is personal to me.

My wife and I met in social work graduate school.

We built our own family by adopting our three children.

I know the love, the hope, and the vulnerability it takes to create a family.

I also know this: creating a family is only the beginning.

Sustaining it, nurturing the partnership at its foundation, handling everything life throws at it. That requires continuous, intentional effort.

That’s what moved me toward couples counseling.

I want to help you protect what you’ve built.

My approach is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and deep, active listening.

CBT works on your thoughts first.

We identify the negative thoughts holding you back, replace them with constructive goals, and use practical homework and role-playing to practice new ways of connecting.

I believe therapy is an active gift.

I Ask of You Only What I Ask of Myself

I believe in the power of counseling because I live it.

Regular counseling is part of my own mental health practice.

Meditation and chanting retreats at the Omega Institute keep me grounded.

I won’t ask you to do the hard work of self-reflection without being fully present, supportive, and engaged right alongside you.

What Changes When You Do the Work

You stop dreading the next conversation.

The arguments that used to spiral find somewhere to land.

The patterns driving the distance become recognizable, and real tools exist to shift them.

Your relationship doesn’t just stabilize. It gets its footing back.

The joy that first brought you together comes back into reach.
